LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 Set To Start Rolling Tomorrow - A Milestone For Metro Manila Commuters

Starting tomorrow, November 16, residents and travelers in Metro Manila will finally be able to experience the much-anticipated Phase 1 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, and partners from both the public and private sectors came together today to inaugurate the first partial operation of the project. This phase introduces five brand-new stations: Redemptorist-Aseana, PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, MIA Road, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat).

Dubbed as a transformative development for Southern Metro Manila, this phase of the Cavite Extension is expected to cut travel time between Parañaque City and Quezon City by almost an hour. This project, the first major railway expansion completed under President Marcos Jr.’s administration, is set to ease traffic congestion and add 80,000 more daily riders to the LRT-1’s current ridership of 323,000.

For the Department of Transportation, it’s more than just a rail line—it’s a timely “early Christmas gift” for commuters. The new stations aim to enhance connectivity for residents and open doors for small businesses in Pasay and Parañaque, supporting both mobility and local economic growth. With the LRT-1 now stretching 26 kilometers, this extension will eventually allow passengers to travel from Baclaran to Bacoor, Cavite, in a swift 25 minutes.

Forty years ago, the current president’s father, former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, launched the LRT-1’s first phase from United Nations (UN) to Baclaran stations. Back then, he celebrated the line as a “magnificent” solution focused on the needs of daily commuters. Now, with this extension underway, the Marcos legacy of bringing rail infrastructure to the metropolis is set to continue, promising faster, more accessible journeys for even more passengers.
