Early this morning, Mindanao experienced a significant shake-up as a powerful magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck near Palimbang (Sultan Kudarat) at 10:13 AM.

The quake, originating 722 kilometers deep, reverberated across the region, leaving its mark with varying intensities felt in different areas.

In Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, residents reported feeling the quake at Intensity IV, while in Mati, Davao Oriental, and Glan, Sarangani, it reached Intensity III. Further afield, places like Maragusan in Davao de Oro and Koronadal in South Cotabato felt it at Intensity II, with minor tremors reported in cities like Davao and General Santos.

Instrumental readings painted a similar picture, with sensors registering Intensity III in locales such as Don Marcelino and Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental, and Intensity II in Tagum (Davao del Norte) and Cotabato City.

Despite the quake's strength, there's a reassuring note from authorities: no tsunami threat looms over the Philippines, offering a collective sigh of relief amid the tremors. As communities regroup and assess any damages, staying tuned to local updates and heeding safety advisories remains paramount.
