In light of the current turmoil in Lebanon, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. took proactive steps to ensure the safety of Filipinos caught in the conflict during a recent Zoom meeting at the ASEAN Summit in Laos. With the situation growing increasingly dire, he emphasized the importance of preparing for the safe return of our kababayans.

During the meeting, key government officials—including Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, and Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo—provided updates on the situation. They assured the President that they are working diligently on the repatriation efforts and are currently awaiting exit clearances from Lebanon. The Philippine Embassy in Beirut is also doing its best to expedite this process to bring our fellow Filipinos back home as quickly and safely as possible.

As of October 8, 2024, the Philippine Embassy has received an impressive 1,721 applications for repatriation, and so far, 511 Filipinos have successfully made it back to the Philippines. The government remains committed to ensuring that those still in Lebanon receive the necessary support and assistance during this challenging time.

President Marcos Jr.'s urgent call to action highlights the administration's dedication to protecting the welfare of Filipinos abroad, especially in times of crisis. With continued efforts from various government agencies, there’s hope for a swift resolution and a safe return for all affected Filipinos.
