Mayor Magalong Urges Baguio Residents To Stay Cautious As First Mpox Case Recorded
Hey Baguio folks, there's some news you should definitely be aware of. Mayor Benjamin Magalong has issued a health alert after the city reported its very first case of monkeypox, or mpox—a viral disease known for causing rashes and blisters. But before you start worrying, let's break it down.

First things first, no need to panic. Mayor Magalong assures us there’s no reason to fear a lockdown. However, he's reminding everyone to stick to those good old health habits we've all gotten used to—wear your face masks, keep that safe distance, wash your hands often, and make sure the spaces you're in are well-ventilated.

So, what’s the scoop on this first case? The patient is a 28-year-old male, and thankfully, he had the less severe type of the virus (Clade II, for those keeping track). He was treated and has fully recovered as of January 17, 2025.

In case you're wondering how mpox spreads, the Department of Health (DOH) has you covered. It can pass from person to person through close contact—think hugging, kissing, or even sharing items like bedding or clothes. Symptoms include a rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, and general body aches.

To stay safe, keep up with those health protocols: cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, avoid close skin contact, wash your hands regularly, and try to avoid crowded places. If you notice any symptoms, don’t hesitate—see a healthcare professional right away.
