Starting April 15, 2024, a prohibition on tricycles, push carts, pedicabs, kuligligs, e-bikes, e-trikes, and light electric vehicles on major roads in Metro Manila takes effect. The ban is in accordance with MMDA Regulation No.24-002 Series of 2024.

MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes emphasized, "There won't be special operations solely for E-trike/E-bikes, but our regular deployment will still be in effect. We will have a presence on major roads where they are prohibited. If our enforcers spot them in those areas, they will be apprehended. It's just that starting today and tomorrow, no tickets will be issued. However, starting Wednesday, tickets will be issued."

The regulation prohibits these vehicles from traversing national roads, circumferential roads, radial roads, and areas under the jurisdiction of the MMDA. Violators will face a fine of ₱2,500, and unregistered or unlicensed vehicles will be impounded.

The decision was made after the Metro Manila Council approved the regulation due to the increasing number of light electric vehicles on the streets and the rising incidents of road crashes involving them. The regulation was developed in collaboration with the DOTR, Land Transportation Office, and other relevant agencies.

Exceptions to the ban include crossing to the opposite side of the road, traveling within 500 meters to or from a U-turn slot, and light electric vehicles using bike lanes as per Republic Act No. 11697 or the Electric Vehicle Industry Act.

Chairman Artes emphasized that in all situations, drivers must give right of way to oncoming traffic, especially if it poses a danger to them or their passengers.
