The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is pulling out all the stops to celebrate its 50th year in grand style. With a rich history of showcasing Filipino talent on the big screen, the MMFF has launched two exciting initiatives that both honor the past and engage today’s audiences: Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta 50@P50 and the unveiling of a striking mural along EDSA.

First up, Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta offers moviegoers the chance to relive 50 of the most iconic MMFF films from the past five decades—for only P50. That's right, for the price of a cup of coffee, you can enjoy some of the best Filipino films ever made, including classics like Himala, Jose Rizal, and Ang Tanging Ina Mo. These films span every genre imaginable, from drama to comedy, horror to action, and everything in between. The screenings will run from September 25 to October 15 in select cinemas nationwide.

In a statement, MMDA Acting Chairman and MMFF Concurrent Chairman Atty. Don Artes emphasized how the initiative is a tribute to the MMFF’s legacy and a celebration of Filipino cinema’s evolution. "We’re bringing back some of the most memorable MMFF films to the big screen for just 50 pesos. It’s a fantastic way for new audiences to experience the magic of these films, while longtime fans can revisit old favorites."

But that’s not all. In a fitting tribute to the stars who have shone brightest over the years, the MMFF also unveiled a massive mural along EDSA, featuring hand-painted portraits of iconic actors and actresses who have defined Filipino cinema. From the legendary Dolphy and Fernando Poe Jr. to today’s superstars like Vice Ganda, the mural is a walk down memory lane for any Filipino movie buff.

"This mural is more than just a tribute—it’s a reminder of the timeless stories that have touched the hearts of generations," Artes shared. "It stands as a testament to the filmmakers, actors, and everyone who has contributed to the MMFF's success over the past 50 years."

Adding to the excitement, posters from past MMFF films will also be displayed along EDSA, thanks to a collaboration with iAcademy, giving commuters a visual treat as they pass through the iconic road.

The launch event was attended by some of the biggest names in the industry, including national artist Ricky Lee, as well as representatives from the Actor's Guild of the Philippines, the Film Development Council, MOWELFUND, and the Film Academy of the Philippines.

If you’re a fan of Filipino films, this is one celebration you don’t want to miss. Keep an eye on the MMFF’s official Facebook page for schedules and cinema locations. Whether you’re in it for the nostalgia or just looking for something new, Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta promises to be a cinematic journey like no other.
