Quezon Province Governor Helen Tan provided an update on the aftermath of Typhoon Aghon, clarifying initial assessments and detailing the extent of damage caused by the storm.

Addressing the initial assessment after Typhoon Aghon's onslaught, Governor Tan clarified that while the typhoon did not make landfall eight times in their province as initially reported, it did make landfall thrice in San Francisco, Sariaya, and Patnanungan.

She highlighted the challenges in data collection due to communication difficulties and the focus of responders and local government units (LGUs) on assisting families in evacuation centers.

As of 6 am, the initial data indicated over 13,000 individuals and almost 4,000 families affected across 146 barangays and 111 evacuation centers, excluding Lucena City.

Regarding the evacuation efforts, Governor Tan mentioned widespread flooding in several areas, particularly in Lucena City and Mauban. She attributed the flooding to a combination of prolonged drought followed by sudden heavy rainfall, leading to overflowing spillways and flooded low-lying coastal areas. The flooding in Lucena City was described as unprecedented, with evacuees left without belongings.

Concerning casualties, Governor Tan stated that they are still validating reports, with one reported casualty in San Antonio being checked for its relation to the typhoon. In Lucena City, reported casualties are awaiting joint validation from relevant offices and agencies.

Governor Tan also provided updates on the main highways, stating that the Maharlika Highway and routes to Real, Infanta, and Nacar are now passable, with minor obstructions in Mauban and Sampaloc. Electricity restoration efforts are underway, although some areas still lack power.

Emphasizing the ongoing relief efforts, Governor Tan expressed gratitude for the swift response of Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian and announced the deployment of food packs to affected families. She encouraged those willing to provide assistance to coordinate directly with municipal governments.
