NAPOLCOM Commissioner Edilberto Leonardo has officially resigned, and President Bongbong Marcos has accepted his resignation effective immediately.

On October 4, 2024, Leonardo submitted a letter detailing his resignation from his position representing the law enforcement sector at the National Police Commission, which falls under the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla Jr. of the DILG confirmed the acceptance of Leonardo's resignation in a formal communication, stating, "This refers to the letter dated 04 October 2024 of Mr. Edilberto Dela Cruz Leonardo, tendering his resignation as Commissioner." He expressed the need to notify Leonardo promptly about the acceptance of his resignation.

This transition marks a pivotal moment for the NAPOLCOM as it continues to oversee the Philippine National Police and ensure effective law enforcement in the country. As new leadership is sought to fill this critical role, there will be much anticipation surrounding who will step into Leonardo's shoes and what changes might come with this new appointment.

While the reasons behind Leonardo's resignation have not been publicly detailed, such shifts in leadership often reflect broader changes within the government’s law enforcement strategy. It remains to be seen how this will impact the future of the NAPOLCOM and the policies surrounding national security and public safety in the Philippines.
