Things are heating up in the political arena as the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) moves to subpoena Vice President Sara Duterte after her controversial remarks involving President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Lisa Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Justice Undersecretary Jesse Andres confirmed in a Palace briefing that the subpoena will be served ASAP, adding urgency to the investigation.

He explained that the NBI will take all necessary steps to uncover the truth, including compelling VP Duterte to appear before the bureau.

The controversy stems from Duterte’s shocking admission during a live stream over the weekend, where she claimed to have hired an assassin to target the President, the First Lady, and Speaker of the House should something happen to her. The video of her remarks has since gone viral.

Andres emphasized the gravity of the situation, saying such statements are unacceptable from a high-ranking official.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago also weighed in, confirming that their cybercrime unit jas authenticated the video and ruled out any possibility of it being AI-generated. He revealed that Facebook has been asked to preserve the footage as evidence.

Santiago mentioned that Duterte will have five days to respond to the subpoena. If she fails to appear, the NBI will proceed with its investigation using available evidence.

“Now, ang next step namin ngayon is dini-determine namin whatever action, say, criminal or whatever action that we will take against the Vice President, especially the person na sinasabi niya na inutusan na niya para ipapatay si President Marcos, the First Lady and the Speaker,” Santiago stated.

This investigation, fueled by Duterte’s profanity-laced and alarming remarks, has put the Vice President under intense scrutiny. All eyes are now on her next move as the NBI digs deeper into the case.
