The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has issued a fresh subpoena to Vice President Sara Duterte, asking her to explain her statement about ordering someone to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. if she dies.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed that Duterte is now set to appear on December 11 after skipping the original November 29 schedule. The Vice President’s camp cited a scheduling conflict with a House committee hearing, which was later postponed, as the reason for the delay.

The investigation centers on allegations of grave threats under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 and potential violations of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020. Aside from the President, Duterte also allegedly threatened First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Speaker of the House Martin Romualdez.

Duterte has requested a copy of the complaint and documents that triggered the probe, as well as a list of questions the NBI intends to ask. However, Santiago made it clear that no such list would be provided.

If the Vice President fails to attend the December 11 hearing, the NBI plans to forward its findings to Department of Justice prosecutors for further action.

Duterte has defended her remarks, claiming they were “maliciously taken out of logical context.”
