It’s going to be a showdown in Davao City. Former Civil Service Commission Chair Karlo Nograles has officially filed his certificate of candidacy for mayor, making the upcoming elections a highly anticipated face-off against between him and none other than former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Nograles announced that he’s stepping into the political arena to “give the people of Davao a choice.” He emphasized that his decision to run is all about presenting fresh options and perspectives to the city’s residents.

But the political rivalry doesn’t end there. Karlo’s sister, PBA Partylist Representative Margarita Ignacia “Migs” Nograles, is also jumping into the fray. She’s eyeing the position of 1st District Representative, where she’ll go head-to-head with incumbent Congressman Paolo Duterte, who is also a son of the former president.

The Nograles-Duterte political dynamics have always been a topic of interest in Davao, and this election season is shaping up to be no different. It’s a classic tale of two political families vying for influence in a city where both have deep roots.

With Karlo Nograles’ unexpected move and Migs Nograles entering the congressional race, Davao City’s political landscape is heating up. The question now is: will the people of Davao lean towards continuity or change?
