The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has provided an update regarding the condition of Filipino passengers involved in the emergency flight incident aboard Singapore Airlines flight SQ 321.

According to the DMW's Migrant Workers Office in Singapore (MWO-SG), the OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) involved in the incident suffered a neck fracture and back injuries. She is scheduled to undergo surgery tonight to address her neck fracture. However, there is no update yet on the treatment options for her back injuries. Despite the severity of her injuries, her condition is described as "sensitive" but stable.

Officials from the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok (PE-BKK) have visited the OFW in the hospital, and arrangements are underway for a family member to join her during her recovery.

Meanwhile, in a separate report from MWO-London, it was confirmed that the UK-based Filipina staff nurse and her two-year-old son, along with her husband, who is on a dependent's visa, are all in stable condition.

The fifth Filipino passenger, a 62-year-old male, is currently in the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) after losing consciousness during the turbulence. Medical professionals are closely monitoring his condition for further evaluation and treatment, with assistance from his nephew based in Bangkok.

Singapore Airlines has taken responsibility for covering all expenses related to the incident, which occurred during severe turbulence on the flight from London to Singapore last Tuesday afternoon, on May 21, 2024.

MWO-SG, along with PE-BKK, will continue to monitor the situation of the affected passengers, with further updates expected from the DMW Head Office in Mandaluyong as necessary.
