In connection with the alleged sale of thousands of tons of NFA rice at prices disadvantageous to the government, NFA Administrator Rod Bioco, Asst. Administrator John Robert Hermano, and 137 other NFA officials have been slapped with a six-month preventive suspension by the Ombudsman.

The controversy revolves around accusations of the National Food Authority (NFA) purportedly selling substantial quantities of rice to selected traders at rates that are deemed detrimental to government interests.

In light of the suspensions, Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. will temporarily assume the role of Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the agency. The Ombudsman's move aims to facilitate an impartial investigation into the alleged irregularities within the NFA and uphold transparency and accountability in government operations.
