In a bold move against illegal activities, the CIDG’s Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit (AFCCU) made a huge bust, seizing over PHP 26.6 million worth of illegal LPG equipment and materials. The operation, part of their Oplan Ligas initiative, took place on August 5-6, 2024, in Burgos Extension, Brgy. Suklayin, Baler, Aurora.

This crackdown, directed by Chief PNP Police General Rommel Marbil was all about targeting unauthorized LPG refilling stations and dealers. CIDG Director Police Major General Leo Francisco highlighted that OPLAN LIGAS is a key part of their strategy to tackle the black market for LPG.

During the operation, CIDG detectives, working with the Aurora Police Provincial Office, executed Search Warrant Nos. 78-M-2024 and 79-M-2024. These warrants targeted Aurora Gas Corporation for violations related to illegal trading and LPG regulations. Although the company’s main figures weren’t around, eight employees—including cashiers, accountants, refillers, and drivers—were arrested for their roles in the illegal operation.

The raid uncovered an impressive haul: 3 electric motors, 3 check valves, 2 gas pumps, 1 vapor unit, 1 LPG storage tank, 3 lorry tank trucks, over 1,000 LPG cylinders (both filled and empty), and various other equipment. All of these items combined to an estimated value of PHP 26,642,110.

The seized items were taken to the Aurora CIDG PFU for processing, with the larger equipment sealed, marked, and dismantled to prevent any further use. Meanwhile, the arrested individuals are facing charges under BP 33 and Section 40c of RA 11592, with additional cases to be filed against the Aurora Gas Corporation's higher-ups.

Francisco issued a stern warning to those involved in illegal LPG activities. “The CIDG is dedicated to ending these dangerous practices. We are committed to protecting consumers and holding those responsible accountable. Our mission is clear: to ensure public safety and enforce the law rigorously,” he said.
