PAOCC Recommends Gradual Phaseout Of POGOs While Opposing Mayor Guo's State Witness Role
File
The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) is considering recommending a gradual phaseout of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) rather than an immediate total ban. This approach is seen as a transitional mechanism to address issues associated with illegal activities, such as scam farms, linked to the POGO industry.

Dr. Winston Casio, spokesperson for the PAOCC, stated that a phased approach might be more effective in curbing the negative impacts associated with POGOs while providing time for the government to implement regulatory measures. According to Dr. Casio, there are currently 42 POGOs operating in the Philippines, with 41 located in Metro Manila and 1 in Kawit, Cavite. Additionally, the government has canceled nearly 300 licenses of illegally operating POGOs across various regions.

In a related development, the PAOCC has expressed its opposition to the proposal of making suspended Mayor Alice Guo a state witness. Dr. Casio clarified that based on evidence, the PAOCC does not believe that Guo is the least guilty among those being investigated for illegal POGO activities in Bamban. The PAOCC is also investigating the source of leaked information regarding planned operations against illegal POGOs.

Dr. Casio assured the public that Mayor Guo remains in the Philippines while the investigation continues, highlighting the commission's commitment to addressing corruption and illegal activities within the POGO sector.
