President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. praised SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp. on Tuesday for its pivotal role in revitalizing the Philippine steel sector and creating employment opportunities for Filipinos.

Speaking at the inauguration of SteelAsia’s "Compostela Works" in Cebu, President Marcos highlighted the plant's potential to produce one million tons of rebar annually, positioning it as the largest steel facility in the country.

In his address, President Marcos emphasized the significance of reducing import dependence in steel production, aligning with the administration's "Tatak Pinoy Law."

He commended SteelAsia for its longstanding contribution since 1965, noting its status as Southeast Asia’s largest rebar producer and the Philippines’ sole steel exporter.

The President underscored the plant's immediate impact on employment, with 300 jobs created at Compostela Works and the potential for 1500 more in the local community. He expressed confidence in SteelAsia's expansion efforts, enhancing the nation's industrial growth and infrastructure development under the "Build Better More" Program.

President Marcos concluded by calling for collaborative efforts among government agencies and stakeholders to fortify the steel industry's supply chain and competitiveness.

He urged updates to the Iron and Steel Roadmap to sustain industry relevance amidst global challenges, emphasizing a commitment to a prosperous and innovative future for the Philippines.
