President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arrived in Manila late Wednesday night after his active participation in the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne, Australia. Expressing confidence, he emphasized that the Philippines has set the "right tone" for regional discussions during the Summit.

In his arrival statement, President Marcos highlighted the significance of the Summit as an avenue to discuss regional and international issues crucial for achieving peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. "The Summit provided an opportunity to discuss regional and international issues and how ASEAN and individual member states such as the Philippines may contribute to the peace, security, and prosperity of our immediate neighborhood: the Indo-Pacific,” he said.

As a commemorative summit marking fifty years of ASEAN-Australia relations, it allowed leaders to assess progress and discuss shared values such as peace, environmental stewardship, and mutual economic progress.

President Marcos, recognizing the historical context, added, "This ASEAN-Australia Special Summit is the first Leader-level engagement under the Chairmanship of Lao PDR, and I am confident that we have set the right tone for regional discussions for the year."

He reiterated his administration's commitment to constructive engagements with ASEAN and Australia, emphasizing the pursuit of regional peace, security, stability, and prosperity for the well-being of the Filipino people.

During his visit, President Marcos engaged in various external activities to promote Philippine interests. He met with Australian business leaders and launched the expansion of the Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), a subsidiary of the International Container Terminal Services Incorporated (ICTSI) based in the Philippines.

He highlighted Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040, identifying agriculture and food, education and skills, resources, and green transition as key sectors for investment in the Philippines.

In Melbourne, the President secured business agreements totaling US$1.53 billion or P86 billion, covering sectors such as renewable energy, clean technology, recycling solutions, housing, IT-BPM, infrastructure, medical devices, and digital health services.

He expressed gratitude for the strong commitments from Australian companies in support of the Philippines' renewable energy and digitalization initiatives.

Additionally, the President had meetings with the Prime Ministers of New Zealand and Cambodia, exchanging views on matters affecting their respective countries and the region.

He also met with the Filipino Community in Melbourne, acknowledging their contributions to both the Philippines and Australia.
