President FerdinandMarcos Jr. led the inauguration of the Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Project - Stage 1 (IDRR-CCA 1) in Masantol, Pampanga. This significant infrastructure project, undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways - Unified Project Management Office (DPWH-UPMO) Flood Control Management Cluster, is set to protect the low-lying areas of Pampanga, including Macabebe, Masantol, Minalin, Sto. Tomas, and Apalit.

The IDRR-CCA 1 project focuses on improving drainage systems in key river channels like the Third River, Eastern Branch River, Caduang Tete, and Sapang Maragul River.

During his speech, Marcos emphasized the importance of such initiatives in safeguarding the future of communities prone to flooding. "This project is a testament to our commitment to protecting our people and our environment. It’s not just about building structures; it’s about building resilience," he said.

The IDRR-CCA 1 project is part of a broader effort by the Climate Change Commission (CCC) to bolster climate adaptation across Central Luzon. The CCC has been actively involved in climate studies and community outreach programs, aiming to equip local residents with the knowledge and tools needed to face the challenges posed by climate change.

For the residents of Pampanga, this project brings a renewed sense of hope and security. "We’ve been dealing with floods for as long as I can remember," shared a local resident of Masantol. "Seeing the government take such proactive steps gives us hope for a safer future."

As the ceremony concluded, the sense of optimism was palpable. The IDRR-CCA 1 project not only marks a milestone in the region’s infrastructure development but also stands as a symbol of the government's dedication to enhancing the country's overall resilience to natural disasters.
