PCG Commander Disputes China's Claim Of Assisting Injured Filipino Fishermen

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commander Jay Tarriela refutes China's statement claiming they aided two Filipino fishermen injured in a boat engine explosion at Bajo de Masinloc last Saturday, June 29.

According to Tarriela, PCG personnel, assisted by local fishermen, had already initiated the rescue before two Chinese Coast Guard rigid-hull inflatable boats (RHIBs) arrived.

"We experienced blocking and harassing actions by the Chinese Coast Guard and maritime militia, delaying our rescue efforts," Tarriela stated. "Fortunately, another Filipino fishing boat managed to retrieve the two injured fishermen."

This contradicts China's assertion of providing assistance during the incident.
