The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) orchestrated the incineration of a staggering P9,102,467,185.99 worth of dangerous narcotics on Thursday, June 6, 2024. The integrated effort unfolded at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. (IWMI) facility in Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City, Cavite.

The pile of illicit substances, weighing a total of 2,435,619.8626 grams, consisted predominantly of 1,293,934.2149 grams of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as Shabu. Additionally, 720,898.6564 grams of Marijuana and 359,752.1449 grams of Ephedrine met their demise in the fiery inferno.

Among the confiscated narcotics consigned to the flames was a substantial 1.2 tons of Shabu, apprehended during a checkpoint operation on April 15, 2024, in Barangay Pinagkurusan, Alitagtag, Batangas.

The incineration ritual marked the culmination of relentless anti-drug operations conducted by PDEA, in collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP), NBI, and other allied law enforcement and military units. These drugs, no longer needed as evidence in judicial proceedings due to expedited prosecution, met their final fate through thermal decomposition or thermolysis. Exposed to temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees centigrade, the substances were rendered irreversibly inert, ensuring they could never be repurposed.

A diverse assembly of witnesses, including representatives from the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), local officials of Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City, and various law enforcement agencies, observed the destruction. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and media outlets were also present, attesting to the transparency and gravity of the event.
