Philippine Coast Guard Detains Foreign Vessel For Multiple Violations

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has detained the MT HYPERLINE 988, a foreign vessel under the flag of Sierra Leone, off the coast of San Felipe, Zambales.

The vessel, which arrived on 15 May 2024, was found with 21 deficiencies and had its automatic identification system (AIS) turned off. Attempts to communicate with the crew were unsuccessful, prompting a thorough inspection.

The ship's seven Chinese crew members, including the ship master, failed to present essential documentation, such as crew lists, passports, and seaman's books. Initially headed for Manila, the vessel diverted to Zambales due to high anchorage fees in Manila.

San Felipe, however, has no ports, negating any possibility of paying fees. A narcotic detection dog inspection yielded negative results for illegal substances. The vessel was officially detained on 16 May 2024 due to the identified deficiencies.
