The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the French Navy kicked off a major joint operation on February 21, reinforcing their defense relationship through a Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA). This exercise marked the AFP's third consecutive week of maritime operations in the West Philippine Sea, focusing on enhancing both nations' defense capabilities.

A wide range of Philippine assets took part, including the BRP Jose Rizal (FF150), BRP Gregorio del Pilar (PS15), three FA50 jets, and various Air Force Search and Rescue units. The French Navy joined with their impressive fleet, including the Aircraft Carrier Charles De Gaulle and several other advanced vessels like the Provence and Forbin destroyers.

The exercises included a variety of drills aimed at improving interoperability and coordination between the two forces. These activities ranged from communication checks (COMMEX) to anti-submarine warfare and Dissimilar Aircraft Combat Training, all designed to strengthen their defense preparedness.

AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr. emphasized the importance of such joint efforts, stating, “Through joint maritime cooperative activities and collaborative efforts, the AFP seeks to build a stronger, more resilient defense system that is prepared to address the challenges of the modern security landscape.”

This ongoing collaboration with global partners highlights the growing international focus on securing the West Philippine Sea and deepening defense ties with like-minded nations.
