Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil has revealed a troubling pattern of unreported killings in areas surrounding Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (Pogo) hubs, leading to the recent dismissal of local police officials.

In a recent statement, Marbil highlighted the failure of police authorities in Porac, Pampanga, and Bamban, Tarlac, to properly investigate and report deaths, including those of foreign nationals. This led to the removal of the provincial director and chief of police in Porac and the dismissal of multiple officers in Bamban.

"I'll just give an example in Porac. Why did we relieve the Provincial Director and the Chief of Police there? Because there were killings that were not properly investigated. It’s not normal for foreigners to be dying there. From then on, they should have investigated where this was coming from. It has become natural for them when such incidents occur, which should not be the case," Gen. Marbil explained.

In Bamban, similar issues were noted, with Marbil pointing to the discovery of unfounded bodies as a significant concern. "In Bamban, why do we need to relieve all these people? Again, there were unfounded bodies. I don’t want to say there was protection because there really was none. We have our Integrity Monitoring Group checking on our personnel. We are pursuing inefficiency among our police. Why are such incidents not being investigated and reported to the headquarters?"

The PNP is intensifying efforts to address inefficiencies and lapses in local police operations, particularly in areas with significant foreign activity. This move is part of a broader strategy to ensure that all deaths, especially those involving foreign nationals, are thoroughly investigated and reported to the proper authorities.

The PNP's Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) continues to oversee the conduct of police officers, ensuring accountability and integrity within the force.
