PNP-CIDG Files Sedition Complaint Against Ex-President Duterte Over Senate Death Threats

The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has officially filed complaints against former President Rodrigo Duterte for inciting to sedition and unlawful utterances. The move comes after Duterte’s controversial remarks about killing 15 senators.

PNP-CIDG Chief Brig. Gen. Nicholas Torre III confirmed the complaints, making it clear that they’re taking the former president’s words seriously.

Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla had his own take on the issue. He pointed out that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has the power to decide on its own whether to launch a probe into Duterte’s threats. In short, the ball is in the NBI’s court.

Remulla also made it clear that the DOJ won’t be reacting to every single statement made by the Duterte camp. This suggests that they’re not keen on getting dragged into a back-and-forth with the former president and his allies.

With legal battles possibly brewing, all eyes are now on how Duterte and his supporters will respond. Will this complaint gain traction, or will it just be another political storm that eventually dies down?
