In a recent development, the Philippine National Police (PNP) revealed that they received reports about Vice President Sara Duterte’s supporters allegedly being promised payment to participate in a rally at the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa) Shrine. During a press briefing at Camp Crame, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo shared some of the information they’ve gathered so far, including videos circulating on social media.

“As of 10 a.m. today, about 100 people had gathered behind the Edsa Shrine,” said Fajardo. “The management of the shrine allowed them to enter, on the condition that their purpose was to pray inside the chapel and refrain from engaging in any form of protest.”

However, Fajardo also confirmed that the rally-goers were not permitted to stay overnight at the chapel. As the day went on, reports started surfacing on social media that some of the people in attendance had allegedly been transported from their barangays with promises of food and payment.

According to Fajardo, “There are some videos circulating showing that some of them were allegedly promised 500 pesos for three days of participation, but they were only given 200 pesos instead. This was documented, and we’re just sharing it with you as part of the information we’ve received.”

While the PNP is unsure about the truth behind the claims, they are not dismissing the possibility that some individuals may have been used for other motives. Fajardo emphasized, “We don’t want to pre-judge the situation or the people involved, who may have been misled or exploited for someone else’s interests.”

The videos of the incident were not released by the PNP, but they’ve been making rounds on social media, prompting more questions about the nature of the rally. The PNP spokesperson stressed that they were simply sharing what they’ve observed, acknowledging that they cannot confirm the accuracy of the reports at this point.

"We just want to clarify that we’re not sure if this is true. We’re only passing along the information because it’s been circulating online," Fajardo added.
