Pope Francis is making progress in his recovery, but doctors are cautioning that he’s not fully "out of danger" yet. While the Pope is not in immediate danger of death, his medical team is closely monitoring his condition.

At a press conference held at Rome’s Gemelli hospital, Dr. Sergio Alfieri, head of the Pope’s medical team, and Dr. Luigi Carbone, Vice-Director of the Vatican’s healthcare service, shared updates with the press. They confirmed that the Pope will likely remain in the hospital for at least another week as he continues treatment.

Dr. Alfieri reassured the public that the Pope is not on a ventilator, but his breathing is still a challenge, limiting his movements. Despite this, the Pope is sitting up in a chair, working, and keeping his usual sense of humor. In fact, when one of the doctors greeted him with “Hello, Holy Father,” the Pope jokingly replied, “Hello, Holy Son.”

While the Pope’s condition is improving, the doctors expressed concern about the risk of infection entering his bloodstream, which could lead to sepsis. However, Dr. Alfieri expressed confidence that the Pope will eventually leave the hospital, though his chronic respiratory issues will remain a concern.

For now, it’s clear the Pope is making strides in his recovery, but the road ahead still requires careful monitoring.
