President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recently delivered over PhP100 million in financial assistance to families affected by typhoon Kristine in Camarines Sur and Albay. This substantial aid package aims to help affected communities rebuild homes, livelihoods, and public infrastructure devastated by recent storms.

“Narito po ako muli upang personal na maghatid ng mga karagdagang tulong para sa mga kababayan nating lubhang naapektuhan ng Bagyong Kristine dito sa Camarines Sur,” the President shared with locals during a distribution event in Camarines Sur. His visit highlighted the administration’s commitment to a swift response, with the Office of the President (OP) releasing PhP50 million each to the hardest-hit areas of Camarines Sur and Albay.

This is not the first wave of assistance, either. Last week, the OP released PhP130 million in financial aid: PhP50 million to Albay's acting Governor Glenda Ong-Bongao, PhP30 million to Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion, and another PhP50 million for Camarines Sur — marking a steady stream of relief aimed at uplifting Bicol's affected regions.

“I hope the support we bring today gives you the strength to rebuild. We’re pushing to restore normalcy as soon as possible so that homes, livelihoods, and infrastructure can recover,” the President added.

Government Agencies Unite to Extend Assistance

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) facilitated the distribution of these funds, prioritizing farmers, fisherfolk, and their families. Speaking to reporters, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian emphasized the importance of quick financial assistance from the OP. "Inuna lang natin ito dahil nga gusto ng Pangulo na magamit ‘yung pondo sa kaniyang tanggapan kaagad," Gatchalian said, noting that DSWD will also follow up with more targeted aid.

Camarines Sur alone saw thousands of beneficiaries across various municipalities. Notably, Minalabac, Nabua, Milaor, and Bula were among the communities prioritized for support. In Albay, 1,000 beneficiaries in Libon, along with hundreds more across towns like Oas, Guinobatan, and Camalig, received cash assistance.

Additional Help from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and TESDA

The Department of Agriculture (DA) also stepped in, offering crop insurance payments totaling PhP247,442.25 to 10 farmers hit by Super Typhoon Julian. For those affected by Typhoon Kristine, the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation is expediting further insurance payouts.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) joined the effort, providing PhP3,413,700 in a Training Support Fund to 1,162 Albay residents, empowering them with skills to help rebuild their lives post-calamity.

With the government’s concerted effort and swift financial backing, affected farmers and fisherfolk in Bicol can look forward to a quicker path to recovery, rebuilding, and regaining their livelihoods.
