At the 27th ASEAN-Japan Summit, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. took a strong stand on safeguarding Southeast Asia's peace and stability. With tensions escalating in the East and South China Seas, the President highlighted how transnational issues could threaten the region’s security if not addressed collectively.

President Marcos emphasized the importance of promoting maritime security and protecting territorial integrity. His message was clear: unilateral actions in contested waters could disrupt the fragile balance, making it crucial for nations to stay committed to peaceful, cooperative solutions.

President Marcos didn’t stop at warnings—he also extended praise for Japan's efforts to maintain peace in the region. He applauded their role in fostering dialogue and collaboration through platforms like the ASEAN Regional Forum and ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus. According to him, Japan’s initiatives have been vital in promoting disarmament and encouraging open discussions on security matters.

Looking ahead, Marcos emphasized the need for continued cooperation, underscoring that collaboration is key to ensuring Southeast Asia remains a stable and secure environment for all. By working together, ASEAN countries and their partners can better tackle the growing challenges in the region, especially when it comes to maritime disputes.
