President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. gathered top government officials in Malacañang to tackle ongoing relief efforts and get the latest updates on the damage left behind by Severe Tropical Storm 'Kristine.' During a situation briefing at Kalayaan Hall, the President doubled down on the administration's commitment to supporting affected communities and addressing the challenges brought by the powerful storm.

The President had already set the tone in a previous situation briefing held last Wednesday, October 23, where he assured that the government had acted swiftly. He highlighted the prepositioned assistance and carefully prepared responses ready for deployment. This includes distributing family food packs, equipping water search-and-rescue teams, monitoring ports for safety, implementing missionary electrification for off-grid communities, and ensuring the management of major dams across the country.

But it was evident during the latest briefing that the storm’s aftermath has taken a heavy toll. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), as of October 24, 'Kristine' has caused widespread flooding across different provinces, affecting over 430,000 families—equivalent to two million people—in 12 regions. These figures show the scale of the challenge that relief teams are up against.

The discussion emphasized not just the immediate response but also the ongoing needs of those affected. With hundreds of thousands dealing with the devastation, President Marcos Jr. urged all agencies to keep up the momentum. He reiterated the need for continued coordination to ensure that no area is left behind and that every effort is made to reach those in the hardest-hit communities.

From emergency food supplies to crucial rescue operations, it’s clear that the government is doing what it can to help people get back on their feet. The President’s leadership in navigating these tough times is crucial, and his administration is determined to keep the assistance flowing until every family finds some semblance of stability after the storm.
