The trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) continues to unleash heavy rains, compelling authorities and local government units (LGUs) in the Caraga region to implement precautionary measures. Sea travels and school classes at all levels have been suspended.

Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur LGUs have already suspended classes in both public and private schools since Tuesday due to the relentless heavy rains. San Miguel Mayor Michael Corilla reported a red warning signal and rising water levels in the riverine system, leading to major flooding in some barangays.

Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Offices (DRRMOs) are closely monitoring river systems as water levels started to rise on Tuesday. Residents in low-lying areas prone to flooding and landslides are advised to be on high alert and prepared for possible evacuation.

The effects of the trough are also felt in the Davao region, where various LGUs have declared suspensions in classes and work to ensure the safety of residents.

Davao del Norte and Davao Occidental have issued separate orders suspending classes and work. Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte declared suspension of classes in all levels and a work-from-home (WFH) arrangement in all government offices, excluding those performing safety, security, health, social services, disaster, and emergency response services.

In Davao Oriental, 10 municipalities and Mati City collectively suspended classes and government and private offices. The affected towns include Banaybanay, Lupon, San Isidro, Governor Generoso, Tarragona, Manay, Caraga, Banganga, Cateel, and Boston.

Davao del Sur municipalities, including Matanao, Malalag, Bansalan, Sulop, Magsaysay, Sta. Cruz, Padada, Kiblawan, and Hagonoy, have declared suspension of both work and classes. Digos City Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas also ordered a WFH arrangement in all local and national government offices, excluding those involved in safety, security, health, social services, disaster, and emergency response services.

The affected regions continue to be vigilant as authorities monitor the situation closely, urging residents to prioritize safety amidst the challenging weather conditions.
