Pulong Duterte Ditches Senate Rumors, Seeks Reelection As Davao 1st District Representative

Looks like Paolo “Pulong” Duterte is sticking with what he knows best—serving the people of Davao’s 1st District. The congressman officially filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Monday, October 7, 2024, solidifying his bid for reelection in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.

Although Pulong wasn’t physically present at the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office, his trusted representative, Atty. Elijah Manuel Pepito, was there to do the honors. This move comes as a surprise to some, considering the buzz that’s been going around.

Just last week, Vice President Sara Duterte, Pulong’s sister, hinted that he might be eyeing a Senate seat. But with this COC filing, it seems Pulong’s intentions are clear—he’s focused on Davao’s 1st District.

Adding to the family’s political presence, Pulong’s son, Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, is also stepping up. He filed his own COC last week for a 1st District councilor position, signaling that the Duterte legacy in Davao politics is far from over.
