AFP Stands Firm: Protecting The People, Defending Democracy

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is making one thing crystal clear—it remains committed to its duty of protecting the Filipino people, upholding the Constitution, and steering clear of politics.

With recent talks raising questions about the AFP’s role, the institution is reaffirming its non-partisan stance. As stated in the 1987 Constitution, Section 5(3), Article XVI, military personnel are explicitly prohibited from engaging in political activities. Simply put, the AFP is here to serve and protect, not to meddle in politics.

The AFP’s job is to defend the country and ensure stability, not to intervene in governance matters. Concerns about leadership and policies should be addressed through democratic and legal processes—elections, due process, and justice. That’s how a strong democracy operates, and that’s exactly what the AFP is sworn to protect.

At the end of the day, the AFP remains unwavering in its duty: to serve the Filipino people with honor, integrity, and an unshakable commitment to the Constitution.
