In a recent online chat, Akbayan Partylist Rep. Perci Cendaña shared his thoughts on the growing call to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte. According to Cendaña, many Filipinos are uneasy, and a significant chunk of them—41 percent, to be exact, as per a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey—want her out of office.

Cendaña didn't mince words. He highlighted the anxiety surrounding Duterte potentially stepping into the presidency, a scenario that, according to him, keeps some folks up at night. "Habang tayo ay nagpapatumpik-tumpik pa, mas lalong di tayong makakatulog nang mahimbing," he said. Simply put, delaying the impeachment could lead to more sleepless nights for many.

For Cendaña, the sooner the impeachment process begins, the better for everyone's peace of mind. “The sooner na magagawa natin na ma-impeach siya, the sooner na makakatulog nang mahimbing ang ating mga taumbayan,” he added.

While he understands some lawmakers are hesitant, Cendaña believes it's a necessary step to address the concerns of the Filipino people. Whether or not this call to action gains traction, one thing is clear: the conversation around Vice President Duterte's role isn't fading away anytime soon.
