In a nail-biting finish to the opening leg of the 2024 Southeast Asian V-League, Alas Pilipinas bagged a bronze medal by defeating Indonesia in a gripping four-set match, 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21, on Sunday in Vinh Phúc, Vietnam.

After facing tough losses against host Vietnam and powerhouse Thailand, the Filipinas bounced back to earn their first medal in the tournament since their back-to-back bronze finishes in 2019.

Having endured winless campaigns in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the V-League, this victory marked a significant achievement for Alas Pilipinas. The team's perseverance paid off as they overcame a rough second set to regain their rhythm and secure the win.

Alyssa Solomon from National University led the charge with a stellar 16 points, including 14 attacks, one block, and one ace. Her outstanding performance was instrumental in ending the team's 11-game losing streak in the SEA V-League.

Sisi Rondina of Choco Mucho and Eya Laure of Chery Tiggo each added 13 points to the scoreboard. The middle blocker duo of Thea Gagate from ZUS Coffee and Fifi Sharma of Akari contributed 10 and seven points, respectively, in this crucial win.

Indonesia’s Arsela Nuari Purnama put up a strong fight with 22 points, while Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi added 18 markers for her team.

With this momentum, Alas Pilipinas is looking forward to the second leg of the tournament, which will take place from August 9 to 11 in Thailand.
