Angkas Boss George Royeca Loses Driver's License Over Viral Traffic Blockade

It looks like George Royeca, the co-founder and COO of Angkas, will be hitching rides instead of driving for now. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked his driver’s license after that viral February 2 incident in Cainta, Rizal, where a swarm of Angkas riders allegedly blocked an intersection to let their convoy pass.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza confirmed the revocation in an interview on TeleRadyo Serbisyo, saying Royeca himself admitted to organizing the motorcade. “Na-revoke po ‘yung lisensya ni George Royeca dahil he admitted ‘yung pag-organize ng mga Angkas riders tapos nahinto ‘yung traffic sa Cainta,” Mendoza explained.

Royeca, who is eyeing a congressional seat in 2025 under the ANGKASANGGA party-list, has already apologized for the incident. He also surrendered to the LTO and took full responsibility for what happened. While he’s currently banned from driving, he does have the option to file for reconsideration.

As for the Angkas riders involved, the LTO is still investigating their roles in the incident. It remains to be seen if they, too, will face penalties.

For now, it’s a bumpy ride for Royeca, who will have to deal with the fallout of the controversial motorcade—both on the road and in the political arena.
