FILE
The ASEAN Foreign Ministers have come together to express their deepest sympathies to the people of Myanmar and Thailand following the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that rocked central Myanmar on March 28, 2025. The quake caused massive destruction, claiming lives and injuring many, with major impacts felt in cities like Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, Bangkok, and Chiang Mai.

In a statement, ASEAN reaffirmed its solidarity with the affected communities and pledged to support relief efforts. The regional bloc is ready to deploy its Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ERAT) and provide much-needed resources through the Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA). Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams are also on standby, ensuring timely and effective assistance.

ASEAN emphasized that it will work closely with both Myanmar and Thailand to coordinate humanitarian aid and facilitate recovery operations. The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) will play a crucial role in managing the response.

As the region rallies to help those in need, ASEAN’s commitment to unity and cooperation remains strong, proving once again that in times of crisis, no country stands alone.
