Barangay Ginebra San Miguel took a significant step towards a finals clash with titleholder San Miguel Beer in the PBA Philippine Cup. Christian Standhardinger spearheaded the Gin Kings' charge with a stellar performance, securing a pivotal 89-84 win over the Meralco Bolts in Game 5 of their semifinal series.

Standhardinger showcased his prowess with a remarkable double-double, amassing 34 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, propelling Ginebra to a 3-2 series lead. His ability to deliver crucial shots, both inside and outside the paint, proved instrumental in overturning a 15-point deficit in the third quarter.

Despite a strong start from Meralco, led by Chris Banchero and company, Ginebra rallied behind Standhardinger, Maverick Ahanmisi, Japeth Aguilar, and Scottie Thompson. Ahanmisi's early contributions, along with Aguilar's double-double performance (10 points, 12 rebounds), provided invaluable support to Ginebra's resurgence.

Head coach Tim Cone credited his team's resilience and collective effort in overcoming the Bolts' challenge. Cone highlighted the leadership of Standhardinger, Thompson, and LA Tenorio in rallying the team during critical moments.

With a potential finals berth at stake, Ginebra aims to close out the series in Game 6, scheduled at the Big Dome. A victory would set the stage for a highly anticipated showdown against San Miguel Beer, with the Beermen holding a historical edge in previous Philippine Cup finals encounters.
