'Bawal Ang Bastos Sa Pasig!': Angelu De Leon Calls Out Ian Sia For Sexist Remarks
Screengrab from INews Pasig
Pasig City Councilor Angelu De Leon is not holding back. The actress-turned-public servant slammed Ian Sia, a congressional candidate, for making inappropriate and sexist remarks about solo parents—specifically, female solo parents.

“BAWAL ANG BASTOS SA PASIG!”

That was De Leon’s strong message after Sia reportedly joked that solo mothers who are still menstruating could have a “once-a-year opportunity” to sleep with him. Yes, he really said that.

De Leon, who chairs the Committee on Social Services and Solo Parent Affairs, was appalled. And for good reason.

“Ang ganitong uri ng mga salita ay hindi lamang nakakainsulto sa mga kababaihan, kundi pati na rin sa ating lipunan,” she said, making it clear that Sia’s words weren’t just offensive—they were unacceptable.

She also pointed out the irony of the situation. We just wrapped up Women’s Month, and April is Solo Parents’ Month—yet here comes a politician making degrading jokes about single moms.
And she’s not the only one disgusted.

Public Backlash and Sia’s Apology

Sia’s remarks quickly sparked outrage, forcing him to issue a public apology.

“Inaako ko po ang responsibilidad sa mga nabitawan ko pong salita. I’m sorry po na lumabis po ang aking salita at mali po ang napili kong biro para po magpatawa sa isang political caucus,” he said.

He also addressed solo parents directly, saying:

“Sa mga nasaktan na mga solo parent… ang akin pong paghingi ng patawad at paumanhin. Di ko po intensyon na makasakit.”
But for many, the damage was done.

“Wag ho nating iboto ang ganitong klaseng politiko”
Jude Acidre, a party-list representative, didn’t mince words either.

“Hindi man ho ako botante sa Pasig, eh ‘wag ho nating iboto ‘yung mga ganitong klaseng politiko. Yung bastos, yung walang paggalang sa babae,” Acidre said in a press conference.

He also emphasized that there should be real consequences for statements like this.

A Bigger Fight for Respect

For De Leon, this issue isn’t just about one offensive joke—it’s about making sure Pasig remains a place where women and solo parents are respected.

“Uulitin ko, BAWAL ANG BASTOS SA PASIG!” she declared.
And from the public reaction, it looks like many Pasigueños agree.
