Beau Belga Joins PBA's 5,000-Point Club: A Late-Career Milestone Worth Celebrating

Beau Belga, the heart and soul of Rain or Shine, just hit a massive milestone in his PBA career—5,000 points! It’s a feat that speaks volumes about his longevity, consistency, and undeniable impact in the league.

The 38-year-old big man reached the landmark during Rain or Shine’s convincing 99-81 win against guest team Eastern on December 4 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. With just 30 seconds left in the third quarter, Belga drove to the basket, absorbed contact, and sank a bonus free throw to make it official. Classic Beau—power and grit all in one play.

The achievement places Belga in elite company. He’s now the 98th player in the league’s storied 49-year history to hit 5,000 career points and the 13th active player to do so, according to PBA stats expert Fidel Mangonon III. But here’s what makes it sweeter: Beau is only the third player to reach the milestone while wearing a Rain or Shine jersey, joining franchise greats Jay Washington and Gabe Norwood.

The PBA made sure to celebrate this special moment in style. On Wednesday night, during halftime of the Rain or Shine-Magnolia clash, Belga was honored with a commemorative plaque handed over by PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial. Standing proudly with him were Rain or Shine governor Atty. Mamerto Mondragon and Magnolia’s Rene Pardo—proof that milestones like these transcend team rivalries.

Belga’s basketball journey has been quite the ride. A native of Gubat, Sorsogon, he entered the league as the seventh overall pick by Purefoods in the 2008 draft. After brief stints with Air21, Belga found his home with Rain or Shine during the 2010-11 season. The rest, as they say, is history. He’s helped Rain or Shine to two PBA championships and solidified his role as one of the league’s most dependable big men. He’s even a proud member of the 2,000-defensive rebound club—a testament to his hustle on both ends of the floor.

At 38, hitting 5,000 points isn’t just a personal achievement—it’s a legacy marker. In a league where young stars rise quickly, Beau Belga continues to prove that experience, skill, and passion for the game are timeless.

Cheers to "Big Beau" for reminding us that milestones are sweeter when earned the hard way. Here’s to more buckets, rebounds, and classic Belga moments in the seasons to come!
