BI Tracks Down Alleged Chinese Spy Linked To EDCA Sites

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has officially gotten hold of some important details about an alleged Chinese spy reportedly involved in snooping around Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado shared that after a thorough check of their records, they managed to pull up details on the suspect. Who is this mystery man? Well, he’s a 39-year-old Chinese national who’s been jetting in and out of the Philippines since 2015. To add to the intrigue, he’s married to a Filipina.

Viado revealed that the BI has already passed this intel along to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to aid in the ongoing probe. Deportation proceedings are also on the table, but the BI Chief made it clear—they’re not letting him off the hook just yet. Before any deportation happens, the suspect will need to answer for all local charges and penalties.

And they’re not stopping there. Viado emphasized the importance of rooting out any accomplices the alleged spy might have in the country. He said, “These alleged spies have no place in the President’s Bagong Pilipinas. They will face serious punishment for their crimes.”
