It’s official! The Bicameral Conference Committee on the 2025 General Appropriations Bill (GAB) has wrapped up its deliberations, paving the way for a P6.352 trillion national budget—and it’s packed with good news, especially for our soldiers.

On Tuesday, December 11, Senate Finance Committee chairperson Sen. Grace Poe and House Appropriations Committee chairperson Rep. Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co proudly showed copies of the adopted and approved bicameral report at the Manila Hotel. Joining them were heavy hitters from both chambers: House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez and Senate President Chiz Escudero, leading their respective teams.

One of the major highlights? The much-needed increase in the daily subsistence allowance for soldiers. From the current P150, the allowance is now bumped up to P350 per day, amounting to a total of P10,500 per month. That’s more than double, and it’s a move Speaker Romualdez described as a “win for our troops” and their families.

“Napakagandang balita ito,” Speaker Romualdez shared with reporters after the meeting. “We made sure to include the increase in our soldiers’ subsistence allowance—from P150 to P350 per day. This boost recognizes the hard work and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.”

The inclusion, Romualdez explained, was in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.'s vision for a “Bagong Pilipinas.”

“This step forward gives our soldiers the support they deserve. We’re proud to show that the government values their dedication to safeguarding our nation,” Romualdez added.

Rep. Zaldy Co, chair of the House Appropriations Committee, further elaborated that the increase will be funded by a P16-billion allocation in the 2025 budget.

“We made sure this was included,” Co said. “This is not just about raising allowances; it’s about showing our gratitude and respect for their sacrifices.”

The newly approved 2025 budget is not only a step toward progress but also a reflection of the government’s commitment to prioritize the welfare of Filipinos—especially those in uniform who work tirelessly to keep the country safe.

With the bicam finally sealing the deal, all eyes are now on the next step: President Marcos’ signature. Once signed, this P6.352-trillion budget will be ready to roll out for the year ahead. For now, it’s a big win for the men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines—and a clear message that their sacrifices are seen, heard, and rewarded.
