Hey there! Let’s talk about some good news coming our way. Remember those Senate hearings on PhilHealth where Senator Bong Go was front and center? Well, it looks like all that hard work is starting to pay off. In a recent announcement, the Department of Finance (DOF) has proposed increasing PhilHealth’s benefit package for the top ten most common illnesses among Filipinos. Senator Go is giving us a big thumbs up, saying, “Kung hindi dahil sa ating pakikipaglaban, hindi matutupad ang mga dagdag na benepisyo na ito. Sulit ang pangungulit.”

So, what’s in store for us? PhilHealth is rolling out some pretty substantial upgrades in its coverage, especially for cardiovascular diseases, one of the leading causes of death in the country. For example, the coverage for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)—a lifesaving procedure for blocked arteries—has skyrocketed from PHP 30,300 to a whopping PHP 523,853. That’s a jaw-dropping 1,629% increase! Fibrinolysis treatments, which help dissolve blood clots, also got a significant boost, with coverage jumping from PHP 30,290 to PHP 133,500.

But wait, there’s more! Senator Go has been on a roll, pushing for even more reforms. He’s championed the removal of the Single Period of Confinement (SPC) policy and advocated for increased case rates and expanded benefits under PhilHealth. All of these efforts are aimed at ensuring that every Filipino has access to quality healthcare, even as the state health insurer faces a zero government subsidy in 2025.

In true Bong Go fashion, he isn’t stopping here. He’s promised to keep a close eye on PhilHealth, ensuring that it continues to improve and deliver the healthcare services Filipinos deserve. He’s also calling out the zero subsidy for PhilHealth, labeling it as anti-poor and inconsistent with the goals of the Universal Health Care Law. “Dapat magtulungan ang gobyerno at ang PhilHealth para sa kapakanan ng taumbayan,” he stressed.

Looking ahead, the Senate Committee on Health is gearing up for another round of hearings to make sure PhilHealth stays on track. It’s clear that Senator Go is committed to this fight, and he’s bringing the rest of us
