BSP Plans To Double Coin Deposit Machines To Tackle Coin Shortage

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is on a mission to make your spare change more useful! They’re set to double the number of Coin Deposit Machines (CoDMs) across the country by 2025. This expansion is all about making it easier for you to deposit those idle coins and help combat artificial coin shortages.

Right now, there are 25 of these handy machines scattered around retail spots in the Greater Manila Area and beyond.

What’s cool about them? You can drop off your coins, and they’ll magically turn into electronic funds right in your e-wallet. Pretty neat, right?

But BSP isn’t stopping there. They’re gearing up to roll out 25 more CoDMs, bringing the total to 50. They’ve got their sights set on key spots like Cebu, Davao, Pampanga, and Baguio. The goal is to get more regions involved and make sure everyone has easy access to these machines.

This means the machines need strong internet connections to work smoothly, and someone needs to be there to collect the coins.

She also had a little reminder for users: “Para hindi mag-jam ang coin deposit machine, dapat walang tape, walang kasamang turnilyo, at dahan-dahan ang paggamit.” Keep your coins tape-free and screw-free, and handle the machines gently to avoid any jams.

With this expansion, BSP hopes to ease those annoying coin shortages and ensure that only the best, legal tender currency is in circulation. So next time you’re holding onto a jar of coins, look out for these machines—they might just be coming to a spot near you!
