Big moves are happening in Chery Tiggo’s camp as the Crossovers gear up for the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season. The team has just announced the appointment of Norman Miguel as their new head coach, taking the reins from Kungfu Reyes, who will now shift to an assistant coaching role.

For volleyball fans, Miguel is no stranger. He’s widely known for his success with National University, where he guided the Lady Bulldogs to victory in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball championship. Now, he’s ready to bring that winning mindset to Chery Tiggo.

In a candid interview, Miguel shared his excitement about the new role. “Actually, nakafocus ako sa isang work ko, connected pa rin siya sa volleyball, and then one time, tinawagan ako ni Coach Aaron (Velez),” he explained. “Why not give it a try? This time, more challenging kasi pro league 'to, 'di ba? For me, it's about time na ma-test ko 'yung skills ko at kung saan tayo aabot sa ganitong level.”

Miguel is clearly up for the challenge, but he’s not alone. Kungfu Reyes, who’s been leading the Crossovers since earlier this year, will still be on board as his right-hand man. Reyes, also the head coach of UST’s volleyball team, sees this transition as a win for everyone.

“First of all, we welcome Coach Norman,” Reyes said, showing his full support. “As a champion tactician, malaking bagay 'yung experience niya para sa team. This time, my role is to assist him and guide the team, and I’m very much ready to do that.”

The two coaches already have a strong working relationship, having crossed paths in various teams before. For Miguel, it’s all about building connections with the players and staff. “I’m looking forward to establishing a strong relationship with the team,” he said. “For me, 'yun ang pinaka-importante. Once we have that, we’ll see how to build on the systems and strategies.”

Chery Tiggo, which finished fifth in the 2024 Reinforced Conference, is aiming higher this season, and with Miguel’s championship experience, they’re optimistic about the road ahead. Team manager Aaron Velez is hopeful that this coaching duo can lead the Crossovers to greater success.

“We’re constantly looking for ways to improve and fortify our volleyball team,” Velez said. “Coach Norman is a champion tactician, and with the support of Coach Kungfu, our reputable coaches, and our passionate players, we’re gearing up to attain our goals.”

As the new PVL season approaches, all eyes will be on Chery Tiggo and how they perform under Miguel’s leadership. Will they reach new heights and reclaim the top spot? Fans will just have to wait and see.
