In a dramatic and controversial conclusion to their five-set semifinals clash in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference, PLDT High Speed Hitters found themselves at the center of a storm after a crucial decision didn’t go their way. The pivotal moment occurred in Set 5, with PLDT holding a match point at 14-13 against Akari.

During the rally, Akari’s Ezra Madrigal, after a block attempt, appeared to have her left arm scrape the net — a move that PLDT quickly challenged. However, to the shock of many, the video replay was never shown, and after a tense standstill, the referees ruled "no net touch," awarding the point to Akari.

This decision allowed Akari to turn the tide, eventually winning the match, which sent them to the finals and left PLDT and their fans in disbelief. In response, PLDT released a statement on September 1, expressing their gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans. They announced that they had officially filed a complaint with the PVL Board, stating, “Our High Speed Hitters and the coaches have been fighting tooth and nail for every win and every point. This is us, the management, showing that we will fight for them, too.”

However, in a disappointing turn of events, PLDT later revealed that their protest had been rejected by the PVL. Despite the setback, the team remained resolute, saying, “We are yet to know what this horrible experience is trying to teach us, but one thing PLDT is proud of as a team is how we are one in fighting for the integrity not just of our team but of the entirety of Philippine volleyball.”

PLDT's management also took a moment to thank their loyal supporters and reminded young athletes to keep fighting through adversity, no matter the challenges.

Meanwhile, due to the inclement weather brought by Tropical Storm Enteng, all PVL games scheduled for Monday, September 2, have been postponed to September 4. Fans are advised to stay tuned for further updates.
