DFA Denies Passport Record For Edgar Matobato Amid New Identity Claims
Edgar Matobato File
Looks like the mystery surrounding Edgar Matobato, the self-confessed hitman who linked former President Rodrigo Duterte to the infamous "Davao Death Squad," just got a little more intriguing. On Wednesday, January 22, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) issued a statement saying they have no passport or biometric records under Matobato’s name.

For those keeping tabs, Matobato allegedly fled the Philippines under a new identity. But according to the DFA, any attempt to apply for a passport using an assumed identity would trigger the system’s alarms—especially if biometrics already exist in the database.

And let’s be clear: fraudulent passport applications are no joke. The DFA reminded everyone that such acts are punishable under the Passport Law. They also promised to dig deeper into the situation and, if needed, involve law enforcement for a more thorough investigation.

So, what’s next for Matobato? For now, the DFA’s database shows no record of his travels under his original name. Whether his reported escape is fact or fiction, it’s a story that will undoubtedly keep unfolding. Stay tuned.
