It’s official—Atty. Ivan John Uy has stepped down as Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). His resignation was accepted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on March 6, 2025.

Uy, who was DICT’s third secretary, played a big role in pushing the government’s digitalization efforts. Under his leadership, we saw the launch of key eGovernment initiatives like the eGovPH App, eTravel, eLGU, and eReport, making government services more accessible online. He also oversaw the expansion of the Free Public Internet Access Program to over 16,000 active sites nationwide, the widest coverage yet since the program started in 2017. Plus, he led the rollout of an updated National Cybersecurity Plan, strengthening the country’s defenses in the digital space.

Thanks to Uy’s work, the Philippines made significant progress in digital transformation, cybersecurity, and connectivity, gaining recognition on the global stage.

In his resignation statement, Uy expressed gratitude to President Marcos Jr. for giving him the opportunity to serve the Filipino people. Meanwhile, the DICT acknowledged his contributions and assured the public that the transition will be smooth, with no disruptions in services.

So, what’s next for the DICT? The department is gearing up to welcome a new Officer-in-Charge, who will continue to push forward the government’s vision of a digitally inclusive Bagong Pilipinas. Stay tuned.
