In a concerted effort to uphold Republic Act 11592, the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) have pledged accountability for offenders within the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sector.

This commitment follows high-level discussions with key industry associations, the LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA), and the LPG Industry Association (LPGIA).

The focal points of these talks included the imminent expiration of the three-year transition period for generic LPG cylinders, slated for October 14, 2024. Stakeholders emphasized the necessity for strict adherence to regulatory standards to safeguard consumer welfare and ensure fair trade practices.

Former Congressman Arnel Ty, President of LPGMA, underscored the significance of regulatory compliance, stating, "The safety of consumers and the industry's integrity hinge on adherence to the LPG Law. Collaborative efforts between DOE, DTI, and industry stakeholders are pivotal in achieving these objectives."

Crucial upcoming initiatives, such as the implementation of the Regional Program Implementation Task Force (RPITF), were also deliberated during the meeting at the DOE headquarters. DOE's Oil Industry Management Bureau Director Rino Abad and DTI Assistant Secretaries Atty. Kristian Ablan and Agaton Teodoro Uvero represented Secretary Alfredo Pascual.

Moving forward, the DOE and DTI, in tandem with LPG industry leaders, will maintain ongoing consultations to monitor progress and address emerging challenges throughout the implementation phases of these critical measures.
