Fewer Firecracker Injuries Reported This Year, Says DOH
FILE
The Department of Health (DOH) has shared some positive news as they continue monitoring firecracker-related injuries across 62 sentinel sites. From December 22 to 6:00 a.m. on December 26, 2024, a total of 69 cases have been reported.

Interestingly, there’s a noticeable decrease in the number of injuries compared to the same period last year. As of December 26, 2023, there were 52 cases, but this year, the tally for the same date has dropped to 26 cases—a significant improvement.

While 69 might still sound like a lot, it’s important to highlight that only 26 new cases were recorded on December 26, 2024. This decline suggests that ongoing campaigns against the use of dangerous fireworks and safety measures may be making an impact.

The DOH continues to remind everyone to stay safe as the New Year celebrations draw closer, emphasizing alternative ways to enjoy the festivities without risking injury.
