The Philippine film industry took center stage at the Malacañang Palace as the government of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was praised for its concrete efforts to boost the industry during Konsyerto sa Palasyo: Para sa Pelikulang Pilipino last Sunday.

The event wasn’t just a night of music and entertainment; it was a heartfelt celebration of the Filipino film industry’s contribution to arts and culture, proving that this administration is walking the talk when it comes to supporting local creatives.

Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chairperson and CEO Jose Javier Reyes put it plainly: this isn’t just about empty promises.

“It proved, once and for all, that this is one administration that does not just really give lip service,” Reyes said passionately. “Here, we see a deliberate and concerted effort to really help the film industry, which is in dire need of government support.”

Reyes didn’t hold back in expressing his gratitude to President Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, emphasizing that their initiatives have boosted the morale of an industry that has long been struggling to regain its footing.

“Hindi lang kayo nangangakong tumulong — tumutulong po kayo,” Reyes shared, highlighting how this level of support feels like a breath of fresh air.

“Sana Tuloy-Tuloy” — A Resurgence of Hope

Veteran actress Lorna Tolentino echoed Reyes’ sentiments, expressing how important initiatives like Konsyerto sa Palasyo are, especially as the local film scene sees a much-needed resurgence.

“Mahalaga para sa industriya ng pelikula na mabuhay ulit,” Tolentino shared, referring to the ongoing revival of Filipino films. “Sana ito ‘yung start ulit lalong-lalo na sa Metro Manila Film Fest.”

Actress Gladys Reyes also spoke about the morale boost that comes with knowing the government has their back.

“Napakalaking bagay po na alam naming may suporta mula sa gobyerno, lalo na sa ating Pangulo,” Gladys shared. “Doble po ‘yung kaligayahan namin.”

Actor Enrique Gil added his thanks, making it clear that the evening meant so much more than just another event — it was a recognition of the hard work, artistry, and resilience of Filipino filmmakers and artists.

MMFF at 50: A Perfect Tie-In

The concert comes at an exciting time for local cinema as the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) celebrates its 50th edition. Starting December 25, 2024, ten featured films will run until January 7, 2025 — a strong testament to the industry’s ongoing revival.

The night at the Palace proved to be more than just a show; it was a reminder that with the right support, Filipino films can thrive and continue to inspire generations. For many in the industry, Konsyerto sa Palasyo wasn’t just an event — it was a statement of hope, unity, and a brighter future for Philippine cinema.
